Sterling delivered timber transom replacement program for the heritage Murray River rail bridge, managing works within strict rail possession windows while maintaining structural integrity.
The Murray River Spirit of Progress Bridge required replacement of 281 end-of-life timber sleepers with Fibre-Reinforced Foamed Urethane transoms whilst maintaining rail operations for freight and passenger trains.
Sterling conducted precise preliminary surveys and implemented strict environmental controls for operations over the waterway. Works were completed using a mixture of rail occupation and wheels-free windows to minimise disruption to train services.
Replacement of 281 timber sleepers with new FFU transoms, environmental protection controls, preliminary surveys, rail occupation planning and coordination.
All 281 sleepers successfully replaced whilst maintaining the structure for passing freight and passenger trains, ensuring continued safe operation of the Murray River crossing.
