About the Role

Summary:

Sterling is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our growing team. This role is responsible for managing project works from planning through to delivery, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with client expectations, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.

You will play a key role in coordinating resources, managing contractors, maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to a high standard of quality and safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient delivery of projects in line with client expectations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and manage project briefs, schedules, and project management plans
  • Coordinate project activities including scheduling, administration, and on-site supervision
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation such as safety management plans, access requests, and project-specific documentation
  • Manage contractors and suppliers, including tender processes and performance oversight
  • Lead project risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Oversee internal reporting, job tracking, and scope change management
  • Communicate effectively with clients, internal teams, and stakeholders within project boundaries
  • Supervise site activities, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements
  • Review, accept, and sign off completed works by internal teams and subcontractors

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (essential)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Project Engineer or Project Manager role
  • Strong knowledge of engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and construction processes
  • Demonstrated experience managing moderate to complex projects end-to-end
  • Ability to develop project methodologies, management plans, and quality assurance processes
  • Experience managing scope changes, budgets, and project KPIs
  • Previous rail industry and structures experience (preference)
