About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our Civil Construction team in our Rockhampton office. This role is responsible for leading the preparation of accurate, commercially sound cost estimates and managing the full tender lifecycle — from Go / No Go assessment through to final submission.
Working across civil and rail infrastructure projects, you will analyse project requirements, develop competitive pricing strategies, and lead the preparation of compliant and high-quality tender submissions. You will collaborate closely with engineering, project delivery, and commercial teams to assess scope, identify risks, and develop realistic cost models that support successful project delivery.
This is a key role within our pre-contracts function, suited to a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and pricing for civil and rail infrastructure projects
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to determine project scope
- Analyse labour, plant, materials, subcontractor, and overhead costs to develop pricing models
- Prepare bills of quantities (BOQs), cost breakdowns, and supporting tender documentation
- Lead preparation and submission of tenders, proposals, and bid documentation
- Identify project risks, constraints, and commercial considerations during estimating
- Liaise with engineering, project delivery, and commercial teams to validate scope and pricing assumptions
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Develop estimates for rail works including corridor access, possessions, safeworking, and compliance requirements
- Review rail, safety, and regulatory requirements impacting project costing and delivery
- Assist with development of construction methodologies and staging for accurate estimating
- Maintain estimating records, cost databases, and tender documentation
- Support post-tender clarifications, negotiations, and handover to project delivery teams
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and pricing methodologies
- Support budget development and cost forecasting where required
- Maintain strong commitment to workplace safety and OHS standards
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- 5+ years’ experience in estimating within civil construction, infrastructure, or rail environment
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods, materials, and cost drivers
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
- Experience preparing detailed cost estimates, BOQs, and pricing submissions
- Strong analytical and numerical capability
- Ability to identify commercial risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Experience obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Strong organisational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple tenders
- High attention to detail and commitment to pricing accuracy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Excel and estimating / cost management tools
- Understanding of project delivery, construction staging, and cost control principles
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight submission deadlines
- Current driver’s licence
Desirable
- Qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline
- Experience estimating rail infrastructure or rail construction works
- Experience using estimating or cost management software
